Candidate criteria

Shortlisting Criteria

• Currently a first-year student (academic year Sept 2025/June 2026 at QUB or Ulster University Belfast/Magee) or a second-year MEng student at QUB.

Studying one of the following courses:

Queen's University (MEng pathway - open to 2nd years)
• MEng / BEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering

Ulster University
• BEng Renewable Energy Engineering (Magee)
• BSc Energy (Belfast)
• BEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Magee)

• Prepared to complete the mandatory 10-week summer placement each year with NIE Networks at the end of academic years 1 and 2 (and 3 if Meng).
• Prepared to complete the mandatory year in industry with NIE Networks between academic years 2 and 3
• Ability to demonstrate high performance, drive, determination, and passion for working in the energy industry
• Have the right to work in the UK legally
• Have or are working towards achieving a driving license and have access to a vehicle.
